A popular book or series that you didn’t like
A popular book or series that every one else seems to hate but you love
I know the writing is bad, but I can’t help but actually enjoy the story itself. I also had more empathy for aspects of what the characters were going through than I expected.
A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn people for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don’t like
SPOILERS: I suppose love triangle isn’t the right description, but I did want Winnie to end up with Jesse. And not whoever it was she married, I mean what do we even know about that guy? NOTHING! He’s not good enough for her! He probably didn’t show her the world like Jesse could have.
A popular book genre that you hardly reach for
Classics, I find myself often overwhelmed by how many new books come out that I want to read, that the classics get pushed farther to the back of the line. I also tell myself, “well it’s a classic so it’d not like it’s going anywhere.” Which is silly, because it’s not like the new books are going anywhere either.
A popular or beloved character that you do not like
Sansa Stark sucks. l find her to be a stupid naive sniveling nuisance.
A popular author that you can’t seem to get into
I have two for this one as well, Stephen King and John Green. For Green it’s crazy to me, because I’ve enjoyed what I have read of his, but I just don’t feel the need to devour everything he’s written. And don’t even pick up one of his books until a friend recommends it to me or the movie version is being made. Stephen King is mainly his writing style, but that could be unfair because I started with It. Other works might be different.
A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing. (examples “lost princess”, corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)
I’m really tied of seeing the ex-boyfiend who’s kind of an asshole to mask that he’s actually hurt that he’s no longer with the main character. Some ex’s are just dicks, and don’t need to have a hidden set of feelings.
A popular series that you have no interest in reading
I’ve tried to read this for several years now, and I just can’t. I like the movies, but I think I may be calling it on trying to read the series.
The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?
I won’t say these two are better than the book, but I do feel they are just as good as the book.
