Book Addiction Tag

I was tagged by Brittney over at Perfectly Tolerable to do this. Go look at her blog, she’s great! Her GIF skills are unmatched. Seriously.

I took those from a couple of her posts. Go find them!

What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

When I hit a horrible reading slump, it could go on for months. I think last year’s slump hit me for 6ish months. I wouldn’t say it was comfortable, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?

Because I have Audible and the Kindle app on my phone, I’m technically always carrying dozens of books with me. But to realistically answer your question, I only carry a physical book with me if a) it’s the only book I’m currently reading, b) I know I’ll be waiting for a period of time that will allow me to really delve into some chapters, or c) I’m at the can’t put it down stage. Part B goes for my kindle as well.

Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?

It depends on the book. I’m of course inclined to keep them all so that I can have a magnificent library one day, but there are some titles I’m willing to part with.

How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?

Standard Sunday browsing before/after a movie, 30 minutes. If I’ve really got some time, I could spend that long at just one table of books. And all time limits are off when I got to Half Price Books in Texas.

How much time per day do you actually spend reading?

Depends on the day. I’d say now that I’m full fledged out of my reading slump, at least 30 minutes.

Where does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?

Titles usually appear before or after a note telling me to take pictures of books, or to write a specific post for a specific date.

How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?

I’d reckon around 150, but because now I (and probably anyone else who does this tag) must know the exact number, I counted.

Physical Books: 169-this does include multiple copies of the same book
E-Books: 75-I don’t think this splits up when I bought the whole series together, \I think it counts that as just 1 book on Amazon
Audiobooks: 35

GRAND TOTAL: 279

Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?

At work two of my co-workers and I talk about what we’re reading almost everyday. At home and with most of my friends, not often. I don’t like to recommend books without being asked, and I know many of my friends aren’t big readers anyway.

What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?

I believe mine is also A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin. I think if there’s anything on my shelves that is longer, I’ve definitely not actually read it.

Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds i.e searching bookshops, online digging etc?

13 Minutes for a while there, which I’m still baffled at myself for not having read it yet.

A book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?

The Maze Runner. Don’t think I can say the same for the entire series though.

What are 3 of your main book goals for 2018?

  1. 52 Books
  2. Take more/better bookstagram photos
  3. Cut down my TBR a significant amount.

Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?

I don’t think so. The friends of mine that are readers have always been readers, maybe not at the same capacity as I am but they did like to read. I’ve had more of the privilege of recommending something to friends that they ended up loving. Wonderful feeling.

Describe what books mean to you in five words.

Knowledge, perspective, wanderlust, entertainment, comfort

This was fun. Thanks again Brittney for tagging me. I’m actually going to tag some people who, may have done this already by the time my post goes up, but maybe not.

  1. Thanks for the shout out 😊😊 I’m glad you love my gifs! I have so much fun picking them! And the one you picked for # of books is perfect!! And 279 books is awesome! Good job on finishing Maze Runner! I wasn’t able to finish it!

    1. How far did you get? I started it after watching the first movie, stopped after a few chapters and it took me several years to pick it back up again. At which point I ended up getting it on audible and then listening to it at 2x speed.

      1. I don’t really remember? It was a while ago and I never watched the movie. I remember there was a girl that showed up and that was unusual but I don’t remember how far after that I got. I don’t think it was very far.
